Stampede at Lairai Devi Temple in Goa Claims Seven Lives
A tragic incident occurred at the Shri Lairai Devi Temple in Shirgao, Goa, where a stampede during the annual temple fair led to the deaths of seven individuals. Over 30 others sustained injuries in the incident. The injured have been admitted to Goa Medical College (GMC) and the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa for treatment.

Upon receiving news of the tragedy, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant promptly visited the hospitals to meet with the injured and assess the situation. "I have personally met the injured and instructed the authorities to provide them with the best possible care," said Pramod Sawant.

Further details regarding the cause of the stampede are yet to be confirmed, and the identities of the deceased have not been officially disclosed.

The Shri Lairai Devi temple fair is an annual event that draws thousands of devotees from across Goa. Lairai Devi is worshipped as an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. One of the main attractions of the festival is the traditional “Dhondachi,” where barefoot devotees walk over burning embers as an act of devotion. The celebration also includes vibrant traditional drumming, devotional songs, and a grand procession of the goddess.
