Police Take Firm Action Following Punganur Attacks: 40 Individuals Identified

Anantapur Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ammireddy has reported a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the Punganur attacks. Around 40 individuals have been identified through video evidence, and legal cases have been initiated in connection with the disturbing incidents. The attacks, which were strategically planned, were specifically directed at the police. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, August 5th, Mr. Ammireddy expressed his strong stance against the attackers. He emphasized that those who engaged in violence against the on-duty police officers would not escape justice. The incidents unfolded as the organizers of a planned event deviated from their intended route and attempted to enter Punganur town. This led to a confrontation with the police on duty, resulting in a clash and the removal of barricades. Chittoor Superintendent of Police, Y Rishanth Reddy, highlighted the premeditated nature of the attacks, evident from video footage. He confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), reflecting the gravity of the situation.
