‘You create theatrics’: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar lambasts TMC MP Derek O’Brien

In a tense altercation during the Question Hour of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, sternly criticized TMC MP Derek O'Brien for obstructing the proper functioning of proceedings. The Chairman expressed his disapproval and urged the MP to show respect to the chair during parliamentary sessions. The heated exchange between Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and TMC's Derek O'Brien had escalated earlier on July 24, when the two engaged in a fiery debate. During the exchange, Dhankhar pointedly addressed O'Brien's penchant for theatrics and emphasized the importance of displaying respect towards the chair. The incident in question occurred when discussions were centered on the non-admission of notices given by opposition members under Rule 267, intended to deliberate on the Manipur situation. O'Brien resorted to thumping the desk to make his point, which further intensified the tense atmosphere, prompting the Chairman to adjourn the proceedings abruptly.
