AR Inspector Swarnalatha Suspended in Rs 2000 Note Exchange Case
Reserve Inspector (RI) Swarnalatha and AR Constable Hemasundar have been suspended in Visakhapatnam following allegations of threatening, cheating, and monetary misconduct related to currency exchange, according to the police department. The disciplinary action comes amid an ongoing investigation, with Home Guard V Srinu and middleman Suri Babu also implicated in the case.
The court has ordered the suspects to be held in judicial custody until July 21. They have subsequently been transferred to Visakhapatnam Central Jail, where Swarnalatha is being detained in a barrack with regular female prisoners.
Swarnalatha, listed as the fourth accused in the case, has submitted an application for bail. The hearing for her petition is anticipated to take place on Monday.
Home Guard Srinu, currently serving in SB-2, is suspected to have played a significant role in the illegal currency exchange operation, largely due to his connection with Suri Babu. Previous records indicate that Srinu has served at the Gajuwaka and 2nd town police stations.
In her role as the current RI of the Home Guards, Swarnalatha has been reportedly underperforming and neglecting her duties. Suri Babu, from Arilova, is purportedly associated with a Jana Sena leader, and it is speculated that Swarnalatha is seeking an acting role in a film being produced by the same leader.
The police department continues to investigate these allegations as part of their disciplinary proceedings.
