Odisha: In the wake of a tragic train accident in Odisha that deeply impacted the nation, another incident in the same state narrowly avoided disaster when a fire erupted in the air-conditioned (AC) compartment of Durg-Puri Express (18426) at Khariar Road station on Thursday night. The incident took place around 10 pm in Nuapada district. Reports indicate that the fire originated due to a malfunction in the B3 coach's brakes, which were not fully released after the alarm chain was pulled. As a result of the incomplete release, the brake pads experienced friction and caught fire. Officials confirmed that no injuries or significant damages were reported, as the fire was limited to the brake pads. Prompt action was taken by the East Coast Railway, and the issue was resolved later, allowing the train to resume its journey at 11 pm.
