TDP MLA Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy arrested
Prakasam: Kondapi constituency in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district was engulfed in tension on Monday as police apprehended a local TDP MLA, triggering protests and counter-protests by the ruling YSRCP and opposition TDP.
The turmoil ensued when YSRCP leaders, led by V. Ashok Babu, the constituency in-charge, attempted to besiege the residence of TDP MLA Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy in Naidupalem. They accused the legislator of corruption, specifically alleging irregularities in the construction of toilets during the previous TDP regime. The YSRCP demanded appropriate action against the MLA.
A considerable number of YSRCP functionaries gathered at the party office in Tangutur, planning to march to the MLA's house. To avert any untoward incidents, approximately 350 policemen were deployed in the vicinity.
Simultaneously, in protest against the YSRCP's actions, TDP leaders aimed to lay siege to the house of Ashok Babu in Tangutur. Under the guidance of the MLA, a large group of TDP supporters began marching towards the residence of the YSRCP leader. However, the police intervened and halted their progress on highway number 16, leading to vehement protests by the TDP supporters.
Amidst the escalating tension, the MLA and his supporters resorted to a sit-in protest on the highway. A clash broke out between the protesters and the police, resulting in the MLA's arrest. He was swiftly taken away in a police vehicle. Subsequently, the police also arrested YSRCP leader Ashok Babu and intensified patrolling in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any further disturbances.
