Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail has implemented a fee for using toilets following the transfer of maintenance responsibilities to Sulabh International, according to a senior official. Users of urinals will be charged Rs 2, while the fee for toilets is set at Rs 5 from today. The introduction of charges has elicited a mixed reaction from commuters. Many have expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of toilets in Metro Rail stations, citing shabby conditions and poor maintenance. However, they remain hopeful that the payment requirement will lead to improved services and enhanced cleanliness. On the other hand, some individuals have criticized the decision, arguing that they already pay premium charges for travel. They believe that the Metro Rail should prioritize providing better amenities as part of the ticket fare. Metro Rail officials have defended the move, stating that the decision to hand over toilet maintenance to Sulabh International will result in sanitized facilities at the stations. This step aims to ensure the provision of clean and hygienic toilets and urinals for the convenience of commuters.
