SC dismisses PIL seeking President's inauguration of New Parliament building

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court dismissed a PIL on Friday that sought a directive to the Lok Sabha Secretariat for the President to inaugurate the new Parliament building. Justices J.K. Maheshwari and P.S. Narasimha, part of a vacation bench, expressed disinterest in entertaining the petition under Article 32 and questioned its relevance to Article 79. The petitioner, advocate C.R. Jaya Sukin, argued that it violated Article 79 and 87 as the President, being the head of Parliament, should inaugurate the building instead of the Prime Minister. However, after the bench declined to hear further submissions, Sukin agreed to withdraw the petition. The plea alleged a violation of the Constitution, claiming a lack of respect for its provisions by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the Union of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Law and Justice. The plea contended that the statements and invitations regarding the inauguration were arbitrary and lacked proper scrutiny. It emphasized the President's authority in appointing constitutional functionaries and the role of Parliament in legislation.
