New Parliament Building: A Grand Tour of the Iconic 'Temple of Democracy
India is preparing for the grand inauguration of its new Parliament building, 'Sansad Bhawan,' on May 28, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the event.
With a sprawling built-up area of approximately 65,000 square meters, the new Parliament building stands alongside its predecessor. Its unique triangular design has been meticulously crafted to ensure optimal utilization of space, providing a modern and efficient environment for legislative proceedings.
Notable features of the new Parliament building include an expanded Lok Sabha floor, three times larger than before, accommodating 888 seats. This spacious hall draws inspiration from the national bird, the peacock. Additionally, the revamped Rajya Sabha hall, with a capacity to seat 384 individuals, is themed around the national flower, the lotus.
Furthermore, the Constitutional hall within the new Parliament building will surpass its counterpart in the existing structure, providing an even more substantial space for essential meetings and conferences.
The new Parliament building boasts large committee rooms equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual systems, facilitating seamless collaboration and enhanced productivity.
Ensuring inclusivity, the new Parliament building will be "divyang-friendly," catering to the needs of individuals with disabilities. It will provide unrestricted movement and accessibility, enabling people with disabilities to navigate freely and independently.
Complementing the open courtyard, the central lounge will feature the national tree, the Banyan tree, creating a serene and symbolic environment for lawmakers.
