US Eases Visa Restrictions for Indians: More Than 10 Lakh Visas to Be Issued Annually!

In a move that will bring a sigh of relief to Indians looking to travel to the United States, the Biden administration has announced plans to issue more than 10 lakh visas annually. This includes prioritizing the issuance of H-1B and L visas for Indian-origin IT workers employed in the US. The announcement was made by Donald Lu, US Joint Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, who said that the Biden administration is committed to providing visas to students who have applied for classes starting this summer. This is a record in the issuance of visas, he added. However, there are concerns from India regarding the delay in issuing visas for first-time applicants, particularly for business and tourist visas. India is the second-largest source of international students who come to study in the US. Addressing the issue of Indian IT professionals who had lost their jobs as H-1B visa holders, Lu said that the Department of Homeland Security had recently provided some details on what needs to be done on the issue.
