Nampally Court sentences DAV school driver 20-year jail term

Hyderabad: The Nampally Fast Track court has sentenced a man to 20 years in jail for s*xually assaulting a four-year-old girl who was a student at DAV Public School in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Ranjith Kumar, who worked as a driver for the school principal, Madhavi, was arrested on October 19, 2022, for repeatedly assaulting the child. The victim's parents had noticed a change in their daughter's behaviour and questioned her, leading her to reveal the abuse and identify the driver as the perpetrator. Kumar, who also worked at the school maintaining the laboratories and running errands for staff members, had assaulted the child in the classroom. The incident has sent shockwaves across Telugu states, and there has been widespread condemnation and outrage. The police apprehended driver Ranjith Kumar and School Principal Madhavi. A case was registered against Kumar under sections 364, 376(a)(b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act.
