Group Captain Shaliza Dhami has been selected by the Indian Air Force to assume control of a frontline combat unit in the Western sector, marking the first time in the IAF's history that a female officer has been entrusted with leading a missile squadron in this region. Group Captain Dhami, who was commissioned as a Helicopter pilot in 2003, has more than 2800 hours of flight time and is a Certified Flying Instructor. She has previously served as the Flight Commander of a Helicopter Unit located in the Western sector. It's worth noting that a Group Captain in the IAF holds the same rank as a Colonel in the Army. At present, the officer has been posted in the Operations division of a prominent Command Headquarters and has received commendations from the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief twice.
