Ambanis to receive Z-Plus security cover across India and abroad, rules Supreme Court
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the State of Maharashtra and Ministry of Home Affairs to provide the highest level of Z-plus security to industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his family members throughout India and abroad.
The Court's decision was announced on Monday by a bench of Justices Krishna Murari and Ahsanuddin Amanullah. They stated that if there is a security threat, the security cover cannot be restricted to a specific location. The Ambanis' security cover will be available all across India and the same is to be ensured by the State of Maharashtra and Ministry of Home Affairs. Additionally, while the Ambanis are travelling abroad, the Ministry of Home Affairs must ensure that the highest level Z security cover is provided, as per the policy of the Government of India.
The Court emphasized that the Ambanis' business activities both within and outside the country need to be taken into consideration, and therefore, the entire cost and expenses of providing Z security cover to the Ambanis within India or abroad will be borne by them.
The court's order came in response to an application filed by petitioner Bikash Saha, seeking clarification of its July 22, 2022 order, which allowed the Centre to maintain security cover for Ambani and his family members in Mumbai.
