Sperm Banks in China Cry Out for Donors; Announce offers to College Students

In response to China's recent population decline, sperm banks across the country have made appeals for college students to donate sperm. A sperm bank in Yunnan issued an appeal for students in Kunming to donate, and other banks in places like Shaanxi have published similar appeals. The public has been buzzing about this topic on social media, leading to heated discussions. According to Yunnan's sperm bank, potential donors must meet certain requirements to be eligible. They must be between the ages of 20 and 40, taller than 1.65 meters, and free of any infectious or genetic diseases. They must also either hold or be pursuing a degree. The health of the donor will be thoroughly evaluated before they are accepted, and successful donors will be required to make 8-12 donations over a period of time. In return, they will receive a subsidy payment of 4,500 yuan, which is approximately $664. This recent push for sperm donations is a result of the population decline in China, which saw its first drop in six decades in 2022. By encouraging college students to donate sperm, the country hopes to help combat this trend and maintain a stable population.
