Team India clears air on Ravindra Jadeja ball tampering issue
The Indian cricket team has rebutted allegations of ball tampering surrounding all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja after he was accused by the Australian media. During a standout performance in the match, Jadeja was accused of using a substance on the ball to alter its trajectory. The Indian team management has taken the matter to the match referee, Andy Pycroft, who investigated the claims and concluded that Jadeja had used pain relief on his finger.
Match referee Pycroft brought the allegations to the attention of India's captain, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja after the conclusion of day one of the match. Upon being asked by the referee, the Indian team management promptly responded, confirming that Jadeja had used pain relief and had not tampered with the ball in any way.
Video footage of the incident shows Jadeja taking a substance from the back of Mohammed Siraj's palm with his right hand and rubbing it on the index finger of his left hand, which is his bowling arm. However, he was not seen applying the substance to the ball. The footage does show Jadeja holding the ball at the time, but it is not clear that he made any alterations to the ball's condition.
The Indian team's swift response and the match referee's findings have cleared Ravindra Jadeja of any wrongdoing, and the team will be able to focus on the rest of the match without any distractions.
