Eggs thrown at King Charles III Queen consort in York; Protester arrested

After eggs were thrown at the King and Queen Consort while they were visiting York, a man was detained. As crowds gathered at Micklegate Bar, the customary royal entrance into the city, to welcome the couple, police detained a protester. The individual was detained and is still being held on suspicion of a public order offence. As the eggs flew in his direction, Charles kept shaking hands with dignitaries, including the Lord Mayor, pausing only briefly to inspect the broken shells on the ground. The King and Queen Consort were hurried out since the eggs missed them. God save the King and "shame on you" were chanted by the gathering at the protester. The incident happened on the second day of the King and Queen Consort's formal visit to Yorkshire, which included a trip to Doncaster.
