IPC 498A used to easily harass, arrest husband and family members on baseless allegation- High Court

The Andhra Pradesh High Court claims that Section 498-A of the IPC is being abused. According to the court, the husband and his family members have become a target for unfounded accusations. According to the report, wives utilise this section to get revenge on their husbands and other family members. According to the court, the majority of women utilise this section as a weapon rather than a shield. The court has noted that there are more marital problems today. According to sources, a woman from Macherla accused her husband, his siblings, brothers' wives, and in-laws of harassing and abusing her for dowry and filed a lawsuit against them in 2020. In the Macherla court, police have filed a complaint under section 498-A. After approving the husband's plea to have his wife's petition dismissed, the Andhra Pradesh High Court investigated the details using the legal system and established that none of the accusations made by the wife in the complaint were true. Due to a lack of evidence, the judge who oversaw the investigation dismissed the police case against the petitioners.
