Centre key comments on Polavaram project in Lok Sabha!
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a minister for the Union Jal Shakti, stated in the Lok Sabha that the centre has been continuously monitoring the Polavaram project's progress to ensure that it is not being delayed by unforeseen events like floods.
During question hour time, the Union Minister spoke to topics like the Polavaram project and the Godavari floods. In response to a query regarding the Godavari River's potential to backwater owing to flooding, the Union Minister stated that some breaches in the lower copper dam have surfaced and that they are in contact with the state government. He claimed that the onset of the monsoon season a month ago was what caused the threat to materialise in the catchment area. He claimed that the centre had discussed this matter with the state government in order to ensure that no damages would be incurred and the project would not be delayed.
In response to Margani Bharat, a Rajahmundry-based YSRCP MP who asked the Central government for clarification in the Lok Sabha regarding the development of a new project at Dowleswaram in East Godavari district to increase water discharge from the Godavari river during floods, the Union Minister said that the Centre had not received any proposal for the project's construction from the AP government.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the Central government would decide on a new project based on technical viability upon receipt of a proposal from the state government.
