What to do if hotels and restaurants levy service charge on your bills? All you need to know

05-07-2022 Tue 20:37 | News & Politics
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has prohibited hotels and restaurants from adding service charges automatically or by default to meal bills in response to an increase in consumer complaints, and it now allows customers to file complaints in the event that this rule has been broken. The government has forbidden hotels and restaurants from include service fees in the price of the meals they provide. Any customer can ask the concerned establishment to deduct the service charge from the bill amount if they discover that a hotel or restaurant is charging one in contravention of the rules. No hotel or restaurant may require a customer to pay a service charge, according to the rules established by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), a division of the Department of Consumer Affairs. They must expressly state to the customer that the service price is optional, voluntary, and at the consumer's decision.
