The Air India aircraft from Delhi to London was delayed by three hours due to unsuitable seats. Passengers at the Delhi airport were in a frenzy following a three-hour delay in the takeoff of an Air India London trip (AI 161). According to the passengers, crew members arrived late for the trip and some seats were 'not functional.' However, the airlines claimed that the delay was caused by terrible weather the day before, which resulted in flight cancellations. Following the incident, the DGCA, the civil aviation authority, issued a warning to all airlines not to book passengers on 'unserviceable seats' on domestic and international flights. Air India flight AI 161 was scheduled to leave Delhi Airport at 2:45 a.m., but instead took off around 5:45 a.m.
