On Wednesday, May 18, the Supreme Court released AG Perarivalan, the convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. He was sentenced to 31 years in prison for his alleged role in the bombing that murdered the former prime minister. Families who lost loved ones, including former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, in a suicide bombing in 1991 are outraged by the release of Perarivalan, one of seven life prisoners in the case. In addition to Rajiv Gandhi, 15 other people were killed in the incident. Anusuya Ernest, a former ADSP who had served for 30 years, was on duty during the 1991 election campaign rally, controlling the women who were garlanding and draping Rajiv Gandhi. In an interview with NDTV, she recounted the agony and stated that the release of the perpetrators is an injustice to the victims. Anusuya mentioned that it causes agony.
