Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari directed the District Collectors and Police Officers to step up vigil and be on high alert as the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in many parts of the state in the next 48 hours. Chief Secretary held a teleconference today with District Collectors, Police Commissioners and SPs on heavy rains in the state. DGP Anjani Kumar, Special Chief Secretaries Ramakrishna Rao, Rajat Kumar, Sunil Sharma, Secretary Disaster Management Department Rahul Bojja, Secretary Roads and Buildings Srinivasa Raju, Secretary Medical & Health Rizvi, GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose and other officials attended this conference.
CS cautioned the Collectors that in the wake of IMD's warning that heavy rains are expected in many parts of the state in the next 48 hours, measures should be taken to prevent loss of life or property. She warned that already many projects, ponds, dams and canals in Godavari basin are flowing with full water level and due to heavy rains in two days they are likely to overflow. She said that special officers comprising of revenue and police officers should be posted at the causeways that are flowing at dangerous level and take precautionary measures to cordon off the entire area to prevent movement of vehicular traffic.
People in low-lying areas and flood-prone areas should be shifted to safer places. Steps should be taken to ensure that necessary materials are available in the already identified rehabilitation centers. The state and national highway roads damaged by rains have to be repaired immediately. With the water at Bhadrachalam reaching more than 43 feet, the first danger alert has already been issued. The Bhadradri Collector was directed asked to review the flood coming to Godavari and take appropriate precautionary measures. She said that sanitation works should be carried out vigorously in all the villages. NDRF troops have been kept ready in various parts of the state and they can be used in case of emergency if required. Collectors were directed to inform the people through local cable TVs and other broadcast media about the precautionary measures taken in the wake of heavy rains. She said that people should be prevented from visiting waterfalls and other tourist spots till normalcy is restored.
DGP Anjani Kumar said that 60 families in two villages of Charla area of Bhadradri Kothagudem district have been shifted to rehabilitation centers. He said that the roads were damaged due to heavy rains in some parts of Vikarabad. Police officers in all areas have been put on alert and constantly monitoring the situation.
