In support of journalism, the Google News Initiative has launched the "GNI Advertising Lab for India" program. The program aims to improve digital infrastructure and increase digital advertising revenue for small and mid-sized news organizations in India through tailored training and implementation support.

AP7AM has joined the Google News Initiative (GNI) Advertising Lab program and worked with Readwhere to enhance the website's performance. As a result, AP7AM has experienced a significant boost in page speed and an increase in views, resulting in an increase in digital revenue. Being one of the oldest digital-only news sites, AP7AM continues to set the standard for digital journalism in the region.

The digital team at AP7AM underwent training sessions on various tools such as News Consumer Insights, PageSpeed Insights, and Realtime Content Insights. With these tools, the team is able to effectively measure and monitor the website's performance. AP7AM improved its page speed score by optimizing its core web vitals. The Digital Growth Program equipped AP7AM's internal teams with valuable knowledge to increase their page speed and views, leading to the growth of their digital revenue.

Detailed optimization recommendations were shared with the AP7AM digital team, which included placement suggestions for ad units to improve ad viewability as per IAB standards. The other recommendations were new ad formats like Flying Carpet on the article page and Native ad formats such as Multiplex ads at the end of every article.

AP7AM will continue to use the knowledge they have gained through GNI Advertising Lab to monitor their website's performance via the PSI tool and promptly address any non-compliances regarding page performance.

The founder of AP7AM, Mr. Srinivasa Rao, conveyed his gratitude towards Google News Initiative's Advertising Lab. He expressed, "The GNI Advertising Lab has been an eye-opening experience. We have moved our site to Google Cloud and added CDN services to improve the site's performance. We have objectively assessed and monitored our page impressions, users, and revenue. We have seen a remarkable improvement in all of them."

As a result, AP7AM witnessed a significant increase in digital ad revenue, an improvement in page views, and a 78% increase in Page Speed Insight score, from 51 to 91. This program has proven to be a valuable initiative for small and mid-sized news organizations looking to grow their digital revenue and enhance website's performance.
