When 5 of the top 7 at the Sailing Nationals at Umiam Lake Shillong in Meghayaly are from Hyderabad Telangana it is quite clear that Telangana  has arrived and settled at the top of the sport

The picturesque Umiam Lake surrounded by hills and forests and pristine clear water was the ideal backdrop and had winds ranging from 7 knots to 28 knots . This was the first time that a National Ranking event was conducted in the State of Meghalaya

Govardhan Pallara  of Nallakunta Govt School finished 8th at the last Nationals in Bombay and was but a dark horse at Shillong but with a consistent performance in the top 5 and just one win trounced many an experienced sailor with his first National title and an overall Gold beating even Deekshita his team mate and rival.

Govardhan is currently ranked No.7 in India and is well on his way to be No.1 if this streak of performance continues .

“Govardhan is light weight and he dominated the race course with a consistent performance across conditions but he needs to get heavier and fitter before his next Nationals in Secunderabad in July“, said his coach Suheim Sheikh

It was a mesmerising performance by the Komaravelly sisters Deekshita and Lahari from Udbhav School at Rasoolpura who finished close behind in overall 2 and 3 positions making it a podium full of only Telangana sailors. Deekshita and Lahiri also got the Girls Gold and Silver.

This was the first time that Telangana got all three top positions at a National event.

Banny Bongur India No. 2 had a bad day at the races but scraped through to a creditable Boy’s Bronze  pipping Rizwan Mohammad of Pattigadda Govt. School by just 2 points

Suheim Sheikh was declared the best coach and the Telangana Sailors team won the best team award too.

In the under 18 double hander Thanuja Kameshwar and Ganesh Peerkatla  won a silver and Vaishnavi Veeravamshsm got the Gold in the under 18 single hander with ease . Dharani Laveti and Crew Mallesh also won a Silver taking the medal tally for Telangana to a whopping 9 medals.

This was one of the best performances of the Telangana Sailing team in its history.
