Jio implements additional 20 MHz spectrum across Telangana & Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, 21st May 2021: Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. has successfully implemented additional 20 MHz spectrum across Telangana & Andhra Pradesh to enhance subscriber experience. This will add up to the existing 40 MHz spectrum and enhance the total spectrum availability in the region by 50%.

In the recently concluded spectrum auctions conducted by Department of Telecommunications, Jio has acquired 5 MHz of 850MHz band; 5MHz of 1800MHz band; and 10 MHz of 2300 MHz band for Telangana & AP.

As on date Jio has gone ahead with deployment of all the three spectrums across all its sites spread across both the Telugu states. As a result, all the customers in the region will be benefited from today & their network experience is bound to improve. With this, the total bandwidth available for usage in 850 MHz & 1800 MHz & 2300 MHz will be enhanced by 50% (total of 60 MHz).

Spectrum augmentation of this magnitude will certainly help improve the network experience manifold for entire JIO subscriber base of Telangana & AP. According to the latest TRAI data, Jio has extended its market leadership in both these states with over 3.16 crore mobile subscribers and nearly 40% customer market share in the region.

Considering the ongoing pandemic situation, curtailed movements & lockdown, this will be a timely addition which will help students to attend classes and professionals working from home, to seamlessly carry out their activities while being safe at home. The enhanced connectivity & experience will certainly of great help to health segment & frontline workers who are relentlessly trying to contain this pandemic.

It may be recalled that Jio acquired a total of 488.35MHZ (850MHZ, 1800MHZ and 2300MHZ included) spectrum for 22 circles in the recent spectrum auction at a cost of Rs.57,123 crores for a period of 20 years. With this, Jio has increased its footprint significantly by 55% to a total of 1717 MHZ. With the enhanced spectrum footprint, RJIL will enhance network capacity to service its existing users as well as for the next 300 million users that will move to digital services and towards transition to 5G services too.
