In a significant move, the Union Cabinet has given the green light to a new bill that aims to reserve seats for women in Parliament and state assemblies. This is a big step forward, as similar attempts have failed in the past since 1996. Back in 2010, the UPA government managed to pass the bill in the Upper House. However, it couldn't go any further to the Lok Sabha because of pressure from its political allies. This latest approval of the bill shows progress toward achieving gender equality in India's legislative bodies.
