New Delhi: Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, administered the oath of office to Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti, officially appointing them as judges of the Supreme Court. The Centre cleared their names earlier this week, as stated in the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on July 12. The appointments were made in accordance with the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India. The Centre's approval came just one week after the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, recommended the appointments of Chief Justice Bhuyan from the Telangana High Court and Chief Justice Bhatti from Kerala. With the addition of these two judges, the Supreme Court's total number of judges now stands at 32, out of the sanctioned strength of 34, including the Chief Justice of India.
