Passengers aboard the prestigious Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express had a fortunate escape on Sunday when the train was struck by lightning. Although the passengers remained unharmed, the lightning strike resulted in certain technical complications. According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred as the train was crossing the Baitarani River after passing the Jajpur station in Odisha. The impact of the lightning caused a sudden disruption in the train's electrical system, resulting in the immediate loss of power. Passengers described hearing a loud noise followed by the abrupt cessation of lights and air conditioning. At the time of the incident, the train was partially positioned on the river bridge and partially outside it. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers. However, it was noted that a tree branch had struck the front of the engine, causing cracks in its windshield. Railway officials have dispatched a diesel engine to restart the train and resume the journey.
