Tourists taking selfies in Portofino, a town on Italy’s Italian Riviera, could be fined up to 275 euros (Rs 25,000) for violating new rules introduced in April. The town has introduced two “red zones” where tourists are not allowed to linger, designed to prevent overcrowding at scenic viewpoints during peak times in the holiday season. Violators who wait “too long” in these zones to take pictures may face a fine. Portofino receives large numbers of tourists in its narrow streets each summer, and the new restrictions are intended to prevent pedestrian traffic jams.
