Patna: In a shocking incident, a team of Mines Department officials was attacked by members of the sand mafia on Monday afternoon in Bihar's Patna district. According to the police, the attack left a woman mining inspector brutally thrashed. The incident occurred when the Mines Department team learned that sand mafia were overloading trucks near the Parev village. A team of Mines Department officials and Bihta police went to the area for inspection, but they were outnumbered by the sand mafias and truck drivers who then attacked the team. While the police and other Mines Department officials managed to escape, the woman inspector was not so fortunate and was beaten with batons and pelted with stones by the assailants. After the incident, a large number of police personnel led by the SP, City, West arrived at the spot and chased away the attackers. It is learnt that 44 persons arrested in the incident.
