The ongoing political turmoil in Karnataka has once again been fuelled by a new controversy surrounding the Karnataka Milk Federation's decision to invite Gujarat-based Amul company to compete with Nandini milk products, under the auspices of KMF. While Nandini has gained the backing of the Bangalore Hotel Owners' Association, which has pledged its full support to the brand, the government's decision to merge Nandini's brand with Amul has received harsh criticism from Kannada organisations, including the JDS. This decision has put the livelihoods of over 28 lakh farmers who depend on dairy farming in Karnataka at risk. However, Nandini has taken a commendable step by announcing that they will only use milk and milk products in their hotels, in support of KMF and milk farmers. Despite the political backlash against Amul's milk, CM Basavaraj Bommai has staunchly defended the government's decision.
