The Shivamogga airport in poll-bound Karnataka was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst a huge gathering, including the presence of several state and union ministers such as Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, former CM B.S Yediyurappa, and Prahlad Joshi. The occasion was even more significant as it coincided with the 80th birthday of Karnataka BJP stalwart and former Chief Minister B.S Yediyurappa, for whom the airport was a dream project. Built under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagarik) scheme by the central government, the airport is named after Jnanpith award recipient poet and writer Kuvempu. Prior to the inauguration, PM Modi inspected the model of Karnataka's Shivamogga Airport. The airport has the capacity to handle up to 300 passengers per hour, making it a significant addition to the state's transportation infrastructure.
