Twelve states and one Union Territory received new governors on Sunday, February 12, 2023, including the poll-bound states of Meghalaya and Nagaland and Ladakh. The reshuffle and new appointments came after President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignations of Bhagat Singh Koshyari as Governor of Maharashtra and Radha Krishnan Mathur as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Former Supreme Court Justice S Abdul Nazeer, who was part of the constitutional bench that upheld the archaeological report on the Ayodhya dispute, has been appointed as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. Justice Nazeer was also a part of several landmark judgments, including the Triple Talaq case, the Ayodhya-Babri Masjid dispute case, the demonetization case, and the judgment that recognized the right to privacy as a fundamental right.
