Air India Express makes emergency landing after engine fire
Hyderabad: An Air India Express flight bound for Calicut in Kerala had to make an emergency landing due to flames coming out of one of its engines during takeoff from Abu Dhabi. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the flames were spotted shortly after takeoff and the flight returned safely to the Abu Dhabi airport. All 184 passengers were reported to have disembarked without incident.
In a statement, Air India Express reported that the pilot detected a flame in one of the engines after reaching an altitude of 1,000 feet and decided to return to the airport. The DGCA stated that the Air India Express B737-800 aircraft returned to Abu Dhabi airport "due to a mid-air flameout."
