Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2023-24 in Parliament on February 1st, 2023. She referred to the Modi government's "New India" mantra in her opening remarks, stating "This is the first Budget of Amrit Kaal". The budget includes a capital investment of Rs. 10 lakh crore.

The central government also made a significant announcement regarding the income tax, increasing the level up to which no tax is payable to ₹ 7 lakh a year starting from the 2023-24 financial year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the budget, stating that it will fulfill the aspirations of various sections of society, including the poor, middle class, and farmers.

However, opposition parties have accused the government of crafting the budget with upcoming elections in mind. The reactions to the budget in the two Telugu states are mixed, with some lawmakers presenting allegations and others denying them.

YSRCP MLA Kotamireddy has presented the evidence over his alleged phone tapping. Sajjala has ruled out the allegations.
