A new discovery at the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory has revealed a large sunspot, known as AR3190, on the surface of the sun. Sunspots, which are areas that appear dark on the surface of the sun due to the presence of powerful magnetic forces, can be viewed safely with the use of a solar filter. According to NASA, sunspots are caused by the movement of electrically charged gases on the sun's surface. This movement creates tangles, stretches, and twists in the sun's magnetic fields, leading to increased solar activity on the surface. The Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, located on the southern tip of the Palani Hills, captured images of the sunspot in its full glory.
