Union Minister Nityananda Roy's statement to MP Kesineni Nani: "No Special Status to AP."

The Centre has reiterated its position that it will not provide AP special category status. Kesineni Nani, an MP for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), posed a query in the Lok Sabha. Nityanand Rai, a minister of state for the home, stated in a written response. Nithyananda Roy stated during the current session of Parliament that the Central Government claimed Andhra Pradesh could not receive special status under the directives of the 14th Finance Commission. He claimed that it was unclear how much AP had suffered as a result of the state's division.

"Funds are being distributed to the states in accordance with the 14th and 15th Finance Commission's recommendations. The union minister made it clear that AP and other states had submitted requests for special category status. The 15th Finance Commission didn't make any particular note, nevertheless." The way taxes are allocated among the states is the same. The only way to make up for the revenue shortfall is to distribute taxes, the Union Minister clarified.
