In order to give Bhavani Island, which is perched on the banks of the Krishna River in Vijayawada, the long-awaited renovation, decks are being cleared. The government is putting the finishing touches on an ambitious proposal to include six other islands in order to develop the island into a popular tourist destination. The island, which was closed to the public in July of this year because of floods that submerged parts of it, slowly comes back to life. Although the facility was recently made public, the play and entertainment equipment that was harmed by the flood waters is still being repaired. The Bhavani Ice Land's organisers are confident that the 270-hectare expanse of lush greenery, rich in indigenous flora diversity, and home to a distinctive riparian eco-system with several bird species, would draw visitors from all across India in addition to Vijayawada and Guntur.
