A seventh consecutive term in office for the BJP in Gujarat would match the record held by the Left Front in West Bengal. Out of the 182 seats in the state assembly, the ruling party is in the lead on more than 150. The Congress continues to trail in second place by 19 seats. The Congress party set the previous record in 1985, when it won 149 seats under the leadership of the late Madhavsinh Solanki, and the BJP not only surpassed that total. The party would also match the Left Front's achievement in West Bengal by winning for a seventh term.
