In order to demonstrate that the chemicals used were non-toxic, the Delhi Jal Board official who was the subject of BJP MP Parvesh Verma's criticism for spraying defoamer in the Yamuna river prior to the Chhath festival today took a dip in the river. Sanjay Sharma, the director of quality control for the DJB, was yelled at by BJP members Parvesh Verma and Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga on Friday after they turned up at the river's edge and began to confront officials. In the video, Mr. Verma can be seen harassing Mr. Sharma for using the defoamer, which he has referred to as "poisonous," and teasing Mr. Sharma by suggesting that he bathe in the river. Two days later, Mr. Sharma accepted the challenge and demonstrated that the water was suitable for the holy dip by taking a bath in the river.
