Telangana's Minister of Information Technology and Municipal Affairs, K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), has reacted strongly to Nirmala Sitharaman's remarks about the state of Telangana's borrowings. In a tweet, KTR claimed that India's debt increased by Rs 100 lakh crores during PM Modi's eight years in office. He directed his criticisms reminding the 14 former Indian prime ministers who served during the 67 years of Independent India leading up to 2014. He said that in contrast to PM Modi's eight years in office, the former Indian prime ministers had collectively raised debt totaling Rs 56 lakh crores. Additionally, KTR has criticised the fact that every Indian now has a debt of Rs. 1.25 lakh. KTR said that instead of useless double engines, the nation needs double impact governance. K Rama Rao, who is also working president of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), claimed that India would today have a $4.6 trillion economy if only the BJP-run states had done as well
