The largest ship ever constructed in Indian maritime history, the INS Vikrant, India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, was commissioned in Kochi on Friday. The prime minister declared following the launch that India has now entered the elite group of countries that have created indigenous aircraft carriers. Rajnath Singh, the Union Defense Minister, Arif Mohammed Khan, Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief of the Navy, R. Harikumar, and Madhu S. Nair were among the dignitaries present at the commissioning event.
