UK PM hopeful Rishi Sunak thanks wife Akshata, parents as Indian-British MP ends campaign

Rishi Sunak thanked his parents and wife Akshata Murty for their support at the final hustings before to the conclusion of the election for a new Conservative Party leader and British Prime Minister.

Rishi added, 'This final hustings is unique for me because the two individuals who encouraged me to enter public service are actually here tonight, my mother and dad, in front of a packed concert arena at Wembley in London.

Sunak thanked his parents, saying, 'Mum and Dad, thank you for constantly sacrificing and working to offer a better life for your kids than you had. It was their example of service and what they done for people that encouraged me to enter politics.'

Sunak, while looking at his wife Akshata remarked, 'You know what you mean to me, and I am extremely glad that 18 years ago you opted to give up your high heels and take a chance on the short boy with a bag.'

Akshata Murthy is the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and author Sudha Murty.
