The massive "Namaste Trump" event was organised by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre in 2020 to give a resounding welcome to the then-US President Donald Trump on his first visit to India. A total of about Rs 38 lakh was spent during the former US President's 36-hour visit. According to the External Affairs Ministry's statement to the Central Information Commission, the Center spent the sum on lodging, meals, logistics, etc. The complete costs incurred by the Central government during the visit of the then-President and First Lady of the United States of America in February 2020 were requested by one Mishall Bhathena in an RTI. On August 4, 2022, the External Affairs Ministry submitted a document to the Commission, citing COVID-19 as the reason for the delay in providing a response.
