At the 2022 Common Wealth Games, weightlifter Bindyarani Devi of India took home the silver medal in the women's 55kg division. It was the fourth weightlifting victory for India on the day. She lifted 202 kg in total. Devi set a Commonwealth Games record lift of 116 kg in the clean and jerk round after lifting 86 kg in the snatch round. Adijat Adenike Olarinoye of Nigeria won the gold medal by breaking the Games records for the snatch and total effort with an overall weight of 203 kg (92 kg 111 kg). Sanket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary had won silver and bronze earlier, while Mirabai Chanu had given India its first gold. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bindyarani Devi on the achievement on Sunday, saying it had made everyone in India extremely pleased.
