Rishi Sunak, a former British finance minister, won a further round of voting and is now in the lead for the position of next British prime minister, succeeding Boris Johnson. Indian-born Rishi Sunak, who won the fourth round of voting, has moved closer to being one of the two candidates who will compete to become the next leader of the Conservative Party and British prime minister. Former defence minister Penny Mordaunt came in second with 92 votes, followed by foreign secretary Liz Truss with 86 votes, while outsider Kemi Badenoch trailed with 59 votes and was thus disqualified from the race.
