On Tuesday, opposition lawmakers protested in the Lok Sabha against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) being applied to some packaged food goods as well as the issue of price increases. When the House convened at 11 am, opposition members from the Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, and other parties arrived to the House well carrying placards protesting the implementation of the GST on a few additional commodities. They shouted slogans at the Modi administration on the price increase. The protesting parliamentarians had to be reprimanded by Speaker Om Birla. He reminded the lawmakers that it is not permitted to bring placards inside the house. The Speaker requested that the MPs who were protesting read the rules again. Such behavior by MPs is improper. The same uproar was heard in the Rajya Sabha, where Chairman Venkaiah Naidu had repeatedly advised the members who were protesting to take their seats if they wanted to talk about some of the important problems, such
