Case against AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi over provocative comments
Officials claimed on Thursday that the Delhi Police has filed a FIR against AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and others for allegedly publishing and spreading remarks on social media that were anti-public tranquillity and incited people on division lines. Following an examination of social media, FIRs were filed against former BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, controversial priest Yati Narsinghanand, and others.
The cases were filed under Indian Penal Code sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with purpose to provoke disturbance), 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to offend the religion of any class), and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief). Protesters from AIMIM have gathered outside the Parliament Street police station.
According to reports, around 20 persons have been detained.
