A bus carrying 28 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh's Panna area crashed into a gorge near Damta in Uttarkashi district, killing 25 persons. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who expressed his condolences for the accident, instructed the district administration to expedite relief and rescue efforts. The police and NDRF teams arrived on the scene to carry out the rescue efforts. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh has granted ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs for the victims' families and Rs 50 thousand for the injured. PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have both conveyed their condolences for the unfortunate occurrence. The national government has announced ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakhs to the families of the victims and Rs 50 thousand to the injured.
