Cyclone Asani, which became a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday, is expected to make landfall in North Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, May 10. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over sections of north coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next two days, according to the IMD. Rainfall and strong winds have already been reported in several areas. Cyclone warnings were issued in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and East Godavari districts. The district administration of Andhra Pradesh has alerted officials to raise public awareness. The cyclone is expected to recurve and travel towards the Northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Odisha, weakening gradually into a cyclonic storm during the following 48 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
